Doulos Hope - The Floating Library

Doulos Hope is a former cruise ship that has been converted into a floating library and book fair. It is operated by the German faith-based charity Gute Bücher für Alle (GBA Ships), a non-profit organization. The ship tours around the world, spreading knowledge, hope, and community development.

Recently a friend of mine had an opportunity to visit this floating library at the Labuan Liberty Wharf, and bought me some postcards related to this ship. tqsm♡

This beautiful ilustrated Map of France landed today in my postbox, and as usual, my first thought is looking for an ID, but none:) then only to realized this was actually a surprise gift sent by a kind stranger from far away! Thank you so much Veronique, so kind of you! i really appreciated it💕
it seems not many postcrosser from France now a days ( compare to 10+ years ago..), because recently i received 42 official postcards but none of them from France. its a bit surprising for me.

Inside The Yellow Earth, China Losses Plateau

In China, the Yellow Earth usually refers to the loess plateau in the country's northern part. The plateau is acknowledged as the birthplace of the Chinese nationality. The Tomb of Emperor Huang, Said to be the ancestor of the Chinese people, still locates on the northern Shaanxi province. The name of the Yellow River is also originated from the Yellow Earth. Accordingly, the Yellow Earth is considered by many the synonym of China.

Geographically, the loess plateau is situated in the central part of North China with an area of thou sands of square kilometers and its altitude averaging 800 till 1,200 meters above the sea level. The place is one of China's driest regions partially owing to the overcultivation and soil eresión. For the past centuries, people in the region developed a special cave dwelling, or Yao Dong. They dig vertically at the sunny slope of the hills till they finally finish an arch - roofed cave.
The poor transport means and inaccessibility to information solidifies the evolution of productive methods and people's lifestyles. Farmers in the region still cultivate lands with manual powers and the harvest relies heavily on unpredictable climate. The most grandeur sacrificial ritual in the plateau is the rain - praying ceremony. Every year before the spring plantation, farmers throng atop hills to offer sacrifices for the Dragon King, the legendary rain god, for favorable climate and bumper harvest in the coming year.

The most cheerful occasion for the poor peasants there, as in other parts of China, is the Spring Festi-val. Every Spring Festival, every household would ardently decorate its home and put exquisite paper— cuttings on windows. Farmers in colorful or grotesque costumes organize their own parades to neighboring villages for exchanging new year greetings. The carnival forms a sharp contrast with the stable, lonely and hardship routine life in the Yellow Earth in most of the year. The Chinese history seems solidify in the region for the lifestyle remains unchanged for several thousands of years in the plateau.

The reform and opening — up drive in recent years also shed light on the lives of the people in the plateau. Part of the families, though still live in the caves, now have radios or TVs. The outside world is not totally alien for them. However, most of them still confine themselves in the Yellow Earth. Inside the plateau, besides the countless untold have been told. stories about an ancient civilization, some new tales about new lives..

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall was continuously built from the 3rd century BC to the 17th century AD on the northern border of the country as the great military defence project of successive Chinese Empires, with a total length of more than 20,000 kilometers. The Great Wall begins in the east at Shanhaiguan in Hebei province and ends at Jiayuguan in Gansu province to the west. Its main body consists of walls, horse tracks, watch towers, and shelters on the wall, and includes fortresses and passes along the Wall.

The Great Wall reflects collision and exchanges between agricultural civilizations and nomadic civilizations in ancient China. It provides significant physical evidence of the far-sighted political strategic thinking and mighty military and national defence forces of central empires in ancient China, and is an outstanding example of the superb military architecture, technology and art of ancient China. It embodies unparalleled significance as the national symbol for safeguarding the security of the country and its people.

World Postcards Day 01.10.2024

World Postcard Day is celebrated on October 1st each year to celebrate the postcard and the amazing connections it creates. i feel so lucky to be the receiver of this beautiful Postcard, with all those colorful sign from Utrecht meetup!

Thank you so much Dear Edith, for sending me this precious postcard, all the way from Netherlands! Edith is one of postcrossing friend whom we manage to arrange a meetup in real life:) such a great memory to have them ( Edith and Jan ) come to my little hometown here in Tenom. They took a train from Beaufort to Tenom, and there we first meet, Tenom Railway! :)

Pura Besakih Temple, Bali.

Besakih Temple, often referred to as the "Mother Temple of Bali", is the largest and most important Hindu temple complex on the island. Nestled on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung, Bali's highest volcano, the temple is not only a major religious site but also a cultural icon that draws visitors from around the world.

The temple complex is a sprawling collection of 23 separate but related temples, with Pura Penataran Agung being the most significant among them. Besakih Temple is revered as the holiest of all Balinese temples, serving as a pilgrimage site for the Balinese Hindu community. It stands as a testament to the rich spiritual traditions of Bali, blending majestic architecture with profound religious practices.
